YOUNG ARTIST MENTORING PROGRAM

OSO Young Artists Mentoring (YAM) programme has as a main goal to further develop the technical and artistic skills of young musicians, and give them the opportunity to play side-by-side with professional musicians during weekly rehearsals, as well as during concerts, thus preserving and enhancing traditions, heritage, and culture. The OSO accepts unlimited number of young musicians who are 18 years old or younger on an ongoing basis and without restrictions. The hours that high school students spend for playing in the orchestra count as community service volunteer hours. For more information, e-mail Office@OrionSymphony.org. The Members of the OSO 2025 YAM Program are Julian Bredin and Mackenzie McIntyre.

CANADIAN COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

With the support of the SOCAN Foundation, the OSO invites established Canadian composers to participate in a 3–5 day residency in order to increase the interest in and support for contemporary Canadian music and its performance. OSO resident composers may write a new work for a premiere with the OSO, give composition workshops and a seminars about their compositional methods and oversee reading sessions and recordings of newly written works by young Canadian composers.

EMERGING ARTISTS PROGRAM

The OSO provides opportunities to emerging artists to perform major compositions for solo instrument and orchestra as guest soloists. Performing with an orchestra provides emerging musicians with invaluable professional experience, artistic growth, and community exposure, helping them build confidence, expand their networks, and develop as future leaders in the arts. The OSO 2025 Emerging Artists are violinist Maria Jojatu and cellist Mira Kardan.
